There’s honestly no better place for a honeymoon than Africa (in my unbiased opinion).
It gives you everything at once. Adventure and stillness, thrill and romance. Safari days that end with sundowners and bush dinners under the stars. Driving past a pride of lions one day and lying on a private beach the next. Few destinations can pull off that kind of range.
A quick practical note: a lot of our partner lodges offer great honeymoon perks. The most common is 50% off one partner’s rate, often with other complimentary perks. We always chase these down where we can, they can add value in a big way.
Many of our honeymooners opt to pair safari with a beach finish, and there’s a reason it works so well. The thrill of safari, followed by a few days of doing close to nothing on the sand. Mozambique, Zanzibar, the Seychelles and the Maldives all pair beautifully.
Here are some of my favourite combinations.
1. South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe
The classic, and honestly, it earns it.
A few days in Cape Town for restaurants, culture and beach time. Up to the Winelands for vineyards, long lunches and slow afternoons. Then north into Botswana’s Okavango Delta, this is the heart of the trip and where the real magic happens. You finish at Victoria Falls, where you can take a helicopter over the falls and cruise the Zambezi at sunset.
Where we’d send you: The Silo or Ellerman House in Cape Town, Leeu Estates or La Residence in Franschhoek, Daunara Safari Lodge or Singita Elela (opening Dec 2026) in the Delta, Matetsi or Mpala Jena at the Falls.

2. Tanzania and Rwanda
Okay, this one is incredible if you’re up for a real adventure.
The Grumeti is a huge private reserve on the edge of the Serengeti, and unlike the Serengeti National Park and Masai Mara, where you can find yourself in queues of vehicles, Grumeti is private which means fewer vehicles, off-road driving is allowed, and no bun fights to get to a sighting. The migration passes through between June and August, which is something you have to see to believe. One or two lodges here is the sweet spot.
Then you hop on a short flight to Rwanda for the part of the trip you’ll never stop talking about: gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. Always do two treks if you can, the second feels more relaxed and the second family you’re with will be different. While you’re there, throw in an easy day of golden monkey tracking too.
Where we’d send you: Singita Sabora and Faru Faru in the Grumeti, Singita Kwitonda in Volcanoes National Park.
Worth knowing: Singita runs great long-stay and combination specials between their properties. We’ll always check what’s running at the time of booking.
Why this works: The Grumeti gives you world-class safari, and gorilla trekking is the kind of epic finale that you’ll remember forever.
3. Kenya and Seychelles
Classic East African safari followed by some of the most beautiful beaches.
Start in Laikipia, a quieter, less crowded conservancy with walking safaris, riding, and cultural and conservation experiences. Then the Maasai Mara for the big game and (in season) the great migration. End in the Seychelles for barefoot luxury.
Where we’d send you: Segera or AndBeyond Suyian in Laikipia, Mara Nyika or Angama Mara in the Maasai Mara, North Island or Six Senses Zil Pasyon in the Seychelles.
Why this works: Two contrasting safari experiences, bookended with one of the most romantic beach destinations.
4. Zambia and Madagascar
For couples who want something off the beaten path, Zambia is seriously underrated at the high end, which is part of what makes it so special.
Start in either the South Luangwa (the birthplace of walking safaris, with leopard sightings that are honestly unmatched) or the Lower Zambezi (river safaris, elephants strolling past camp, sundowner cruises on the Zambezi). Then end at Miavana on a private island off the northern tip of Madagascar, reached only by helicopter. Lemurs, and pristine reef on your doorstep.
Where we’d send you: Chinzombo in South Luangwa and Chongwe in Lower Zambezi, Miavana on Nosy Ankao.
Why this works: An adventurous honeymoon trip without losing the luxe. Zambia is raw safari, Miavana is the dream-island finale.
